Deacon Brodies Tavern is one of the landmark pubs in Royal Mile Edinburgh. You'll find us within walking distance of Royal Mile, High Street and George IV Bridge, and we're well worth the stroll. We are a traditional pub that's built its reputation on serving a fantastic range of the finest real ales. Enjoy your pint in time honoured tradition at the bar.
Our tavern is named after William Brodie, one of the inspirations for Robert Louis Stevenson's Jekyll and Hyde. Born in 1741 Brodie was a deacon of the Guild of Wrights. By day, he was a respectable citizen, a member of the town council but by night, he consorted with lowlife; gambling and drinking. His dark side meant he had to take to burglary to pay his gambling debts, leading to his hanging in 1788.
We are proud to be part of the Classic Pubs collection, a carefully selected group of town and city centre pubs all of which, like us, overflow with personality & character. So, if you enjoy Deacon Brodies Tavern, then you might like to find other Classic Pubs and explore the hospitality they have to offer.
If your travels take you to London why not look up one of our Nicholson's Pubs.
