About The Greyfriars Bobbys Bar

The Greyfriars Bobbys Bar A Pub with Character...

The Greyfriars Bobbys Bar is one of the landmark pubs in Candlemaker Row Edinburgh. You'll find us within walking distance of Chambers Street, Grassmarket and George IV Bridge, and we're well worth the stroll. We are a traditional pub that's built its reputation on serving a fantastic range of the finest real ales. Enjoy your pint in time honoured tradition at the bar, or better still complement it with a bite from our pub food menu.

...And History

The Greyfriars Bobbys Bar occupies the ground floor of a row of Georgian houses adjoining the historic Candlemakers' Hall, built in 1722. The name of the bar is inspired by an Edinburgh legend of a scruffy Skye terrier called Bobby. When his owner died in 1858, Bobby faithfully watched over his grave and was buried alongside his master in the Greyfriars Kirkyard in 1872.
